ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A slew of people have been arrested after Asheville police say they conducted targeted operations in various locations of west Asheville, Tunnel Road and downtown.

A total of 62 people face charges, a press release from the Asheville Police Department (APD) reports, after authorities conducted two recent operations.

"The operations were conducted to address ongoing complaints from residents and an outcry from community organizations," Monday's release says. "These operations addressed criminal behavior by repeat offenders. The Detectives and officers staffed the operation were from nearly every division in the department and were working outside their normal shifts."

In total, police said 29 people were cited, and 33 were arrested in the operations, with a sum of 64 charges, three of which were felonies. Additionally, 28 warrants were served, 17 of which were felonies. One charge is still pending further investigation.

Future operations similar to this are being planned for downtown and other locations in the city, APD said.
